Why visual maps matter for desk booking

When employees see a desk name like "Desk 14-B", they do not know if it is near a window, in a quiet corner, or next to the printer. They cannot tell if it is close to their team or in a different zone.

A visual floor plan changes the booking experience entirely. Employees choose their desk the same way they choose a seat on an airplane — they see the layout and pick the spot that works for them.

It also reduces "where is desk 14-B?" questions to office managers. The map is self-explanatory.

How to set up your office map in Deska

Export your floor plan as SVG

Export from AutoCAD, Figma, or any tool that produces SVG files. A simplified outline with walls and major features works well — you do not need full architectural drawings.

Upload the SVG in the Deska admin panel

Go to Offices → your office → Floor Plan. Upload the SVG file. Deska renders it as the background layer for desk placement.

Place desk markers on the floor plan

The drag-and-drop editor lets you position desk markers exactly where each desk sits in the physical space. Assign a code to each desk (e.g., "A1", "Window-3").

Employees book on the live map

Employees see the floor plan with real-time availability. Available desks are highlighted; booked or maintenance desks are grayed out. One click to reserve.

What you can do on the map

See real-time availability — which desks are free, booked, or under maintenance
View who is sitting where (admin view shows occupant names)
Filter availability by date to plan ahead
Book a desk with a single click on the map
Put desks into maintenance mode (they appear grayed out to employees)
Export occupancy data for facilities planning
